Smithsonian National Zoological Park

Great Zoos of the United States

What started with a single baby bison turned into one of the most impressive zoos in the nation. Home to about 3,500 animals, many of them endangered, the National Zoo exists to study, celebrate, protect, and teach people about these animals. Students will see what a rain forest habitat is like in the Amazonia exhibit, and they will marvel as they read how the orangutans in the Great Ape House travel using the "O-Line."
